Momentum collaborated with Provencher Roy to support the City of Kirkland with the development of a master plan for the revitalization of the town’s center as a Transit-Oriented-Development, planned around a new light rail (REM) station. Located in a suburb of Montreal, the site will provide direct access to Canada’s largest urban park, the Great Park of the West.
Momentum supported Provencher Roy and the City of Kirkland by conducting a sustainable mobility analysis to identify the issues linked to active mobility. Based on an initial understanding of the site’s constraints and opportunities, preliminary recommendations were produced, along with a benchmark of the best practices that are relevant to the suburban context and that would allow for a better integration of active mobility provisions into the future site.
We collaborated with the traffic engineers to understand multimodal mobility generated by the site. A mobility flow strategy was developed based on this information, along with transportation guidelines for the future development of the site. Momentum then advised on design elements of the street network proposed by Provencher Roy related to active transportation routes, cycling provisions, pedestrian facilities and public realm design.
